Sam reported back to KISS about his trek across the Arctic wilderness. The team survived in -35 degrees, had to deal with bears appearing on camp and saw first hand the effects our lifestyles are having on the fragile Arctic environment.

Sam is back in the country and getting ready for his KISS The Planet show on KISS at 10pm on Sunday 17th August.
After two days rest Sam and his team are now back on trail. The first signs of global warming are getting obvious. Listen to what they have discovered.
Eventually Sam and the team found an even landing strip. After eating some provisions and having a wash they feel quite refreshed now. But they still haven’t reached the next step of their journey…

Despite the runners being out of shape, hitting rough ice and bumping into a polar bear again, Sam and his crew are still well and continuing their trip on Ellesmere Island. Listen to what else happened on day 12….

On day eight Sam and his crew got stalked by a big bear. Luckily they could frighten the bear away and could go ahead with their journey. 53 days still remaining…..
Luckily Sam and his team had no further visits by bears last night. However, today’s struggles were the extreme weather conditions which dominate the Canadian Arctic….

On day six Sam’s team got some company by not just one, but three bears. Now they hope for a good nights sleep after this shocking experience. Check out how they managed to scare the bears away….

Sam Branson talks about what inspired him to join the 2008 Ellesmere Island Expedition.

Before he left for the wilds of the Arctic north, Sam popped into the studio to chat with the Breakfast crew, and launch ‘KISS the Planet’ to the nation!
The expedition in Iqaluit took part in a 6 day traditional dogsled race between Iqaluit and Kimmirut. This race will provide the team with excellent training and help them prepare for the expedition. Take a listen to how they got on….

The last few days have been pretty crazy. The expedition house has been full of boxes of food and expedition equipment has been bulging out of every corner. Its great to meet the team and they are all obviously very experienced and at times I have felt a bit out of my depth.

As I am writing this I am flying high up above the white plains below, travelling from Ottawa in Canada, to Iqaluit on Baffin Island, where the adventure begins. When I arrive we have two weeks of training there and then we set off to Ellesmere Island, just off the coast of Greenland on our 60-day dogsled expedition.
